Temporary Anchorage Devices
Wylie, Texas
Temporary anchorage devices (TADs), referred to as "mini implants," are titanium mechanisms "screwed into your gum and jaw" that function as anchors for tooth movement. These biocompatible devices can be positioned in various jaw locations based on treatment needs.
The Insertion Process
The procedure begins with local anesthesia applied to the gum area. Patients experience "only slight pressure" during insertion, with minor discomfort afterward managed through over-the-counter pain relief.
Removal
TAD extraction is "quick and painless" requiring no anesthesia, with the site typically healing within days.
Care Instructions
- Rinse twice daily with antimicrobial mouthwash for five days post-insertion
- After five days, gently clean around the device with mouthwash-dipped toothbrush daily
- Avoid electric toothbrushes while TADs are in place
- Do not touch or fidget with the device
- Consider switching to antibacterial toothpaste per orthodontist recommendation
Infection risk remains minimal with proper care and maintenance.
